Green Valley Park has been in existence almost 50 years! Located near Friendly Center, GVP offers a convenient location to some of the finest swimming and tennis programs in the city!

Green Valley Park Rules

Park Rules

-Smoking is not permitted on park property.

-No skateboards or scooters may be ridden on park property.

-No wrestling.

-No running.

-No pushing, shoving, or throwing swimmers into the pool.

-No dunking or dangerous horseplay in the pool.

-No chewing gum.

-No diving in the shallow ends of the pool.

-No throwing balls or other objects to or from the diving board. Only soft splash balls can be utilized in
the pool. No hard balls are to be thrown in the pool (ex. Tennis balls).

-Water basketball is allowed, but should be kept within close range of the goal when crowded.

-No hanging on the water basketball goal rim, standing on the base or turning the backboard.

-No inner tubes or large floats are allowed in main pool except after 6pm on Friday Float Nights.

-No pets.

-No swim aids (i.e. swimsuits with flotation built in to the suit, inflatable arm bands, etc.) Coast Guard approved lifejackets may be worn with adult supervision only and must be cleared by lifeguard on duty.

-No glass or other breakable objects allowed in or around pool area.

-Only swimmees are permitted for use in the pools. Standard disposable diapers are NOT permitted. Swimmees are available at the gate shack for a nominal fee.

-There is a 10 minute rest period every hour when all swimmers 16 years and younger are to be out of the water.

-All food, beverages, and chairs should be kept outside the white line.

-No underwater breath holding games.

-Report all accidents to the lifeguard in charge immediately.

-If dirty or sweaty, please shower before entering the pool.

-Chairs must stay behind the white line and are not allowed in the baby or main pool.

-Pool manager, lifeguard personnel and tennis personnel have the authority to ask any member or guest to
leave the park area if inappropriate behavior or language cannot be controlled.

Park Age Policy

-Before 6pm all children under 10 yrs. must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible person 14 years or older in order to be admitted. Pool staff cannot accept responsibility. An exception may be granted if the child has proven ability to swim 50 meters as verified by a lifeguard and written permission from the child’s parent on file at the pool.

-After 6pm all children 13 yrs old and younger must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible person 16 years or older in order to be admitted.

Deep End Rules

All swimmers must be able to swim across the deep end to be allowed in to the diving area.

-When using the diving board, you must wait on the deck until the person before you has jumped before you
climb onto the board.

-When on the diving board, you must wait on the board until the person before you has reached the ladder
before you jump.

-No back flips off the diving boards. All flips must be forward.

-No double bouncing on the diving boards.

-No hanging on the board.

-No handstands on the diving boards.

-While the diving boards are in use, no one may swim in the deep end except in the top corner on the low dive
side. Lifeguards may ask all swimmers to play elsewhere if conditions become unsafe.

-Swimmers may jump off the front of the board only.

-If no one is using the diving board(s), swimmers may play in the unused board’s area of the deep end at the
discretion of the lifeguard on duty.

High Dive Policy

In order to use the high dive, the participant must be at least 7 years old AND 48 inches tall. Adequate parental supervision is expected at all times.

Tennis Rules

-PLEASE REGISTER ALL GUESTS IN THE PRO SHOP BEFORE GOING ONTO THE COURTS!! Guest fees are year-round! Please pay the fee of $5 per player BEFORE PLAYING! If the pro shop is not staffed ~ collect the money and DROP IT IN THE DROP BOX (MAILBOX) in front of the pro shop!! This is truly an HONOR system.

-All tennis players are required to check the sign up kiosk for court availability and sign up prior to going on the court. You will be bumped if you are not signed up and others are waiting! Please be prepared to show your GVP identification card at this time if asked.

-The tennis courts are for tennis only! No other activities, including frisbee, skateboarding, football, and bicycling, are permitted on the courts at any time. If the courts are being used for non-tennis activities, the people involved will be asked to leave the club for a time period designated by the GVP Tennis Committee and Tennis Director.

-Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times. No swimming attire is allowed on the courts.

-Only smooth-soled shoes are to be worn on both the hard and soft courts. Help us protect your investment. Bare feet are not permitted. After an initial warning, persons who continue to wear improper footwear will lose their playing privileges for a period of one week. Players not wearing the proper footwear will be asked not to play and/or to leave the facility. NO RUNNING SHOES ALLOWED ON EITHER THE SOFT OR HARD COURTS AT ALL TIMES!!!

-The tennis courts are closed for use when blocked off on court sign-up online, locked and /or the nets are down. This is the decision of the Tennis Director and that decision IS FINAL!! We have the safety of the members in mind and to protect the integrity of the courts for future use by the entire membership – not a selected few.

-Tennis players are expected to turn off the lights after evening play. All tennis activities will cease at 10pm – this is year round. Our court maintenance will start at 10pm if not earlier due to court usage. If playing at 10pm you will be asked to stop playing.

-Any tennis lessons held on the Green Valley tennis courts are to be conducted by the Green Valley Professional Staff. The tennis director has the exclusive rights to offer lessons for pay at this facility.

-Only Green Valley members are allowed to take lessons while at Green Valley from a staff professional. If a Green Valley member wants to bring a non-member to be included in on a lesson or team clinic – they may do so but the guest must pay the $5 guest fee in addition to the cost of the lesson or clinic.

-Members may use squeegees on the hard courts, but may not use squeegees on the soft courts.

Tennis Etiquette

-The use of profanity, throwing of racquets or slamming of balls is prohibited. You may be asked to leave the premises if you are in violation.

-Courts should be surrendered immediately at the expiration of time if others are waiting. This is a courtesy to all members. Let the group finish their point or game – BE POLITE!

-Members should leave the court immediately when it is time for court maintenance. This may be for a staff professional or junior staff member.

-Unsupervised children under the age of 10 are not allowed on or around the tennis courts, unless they are playing tennis. Children should NOT be running around the facility distracting tennis players. This includes all areas behind fencing and around the courts themselves.

Guest Policy

Members are welcome and encouraged to bring guests to visit Green Valley Swim & Tennis.

● All guests must accompany a current GVP member.

● Anyone accompanying a member to GVP that does not fall under the direct
parameters of your membership category, is considered to be a guest (Please see
GVP Membership Categories for clarification if needed).

● All guests must check in at the Pool Gate Shack or Tennis Pro Shop prior to using
any GVP facilities.

● A fee of $5 per person/ per day must be paid to GVP prior to use of the facilities.

● Guests residing in Guilford County are limited to 10 visits to the Park per calendar
year, unless said guest is able to provide proof of a current membership at
another swim and tennis club in Guilford County. If proof of current membership
is provided, said guest may visit GVP on an unlimited basis for a fee of $5 per
person/ per day while accompanied by a member in good standing.

● Tennis guests who have not provided proof of membership at another swim and tennis club are limited to one visit per month, unless special permission is granted by the Tennis Director or Board Membership Chair.

● Guests residing outside of Guilford County may visit for free (proof of residence required).

● It is the responsibility of the accompanying member to make sure that their
guests are aware of and follow all GVP rules and guidelines.

● Any unpaid guest usage of GVP facilities is the responsibility of the host member,
and could result in the suspension of park privileges.
